Do you know what TC4 powder is? In fact, TC4 powder is another name for titanium alloy powder. Do you know how TC4 powder develops step by step? Now let's take a look.
Titanium is difficult to melt and process, and the manufacturing cost of parts is high. The rise of TC4 powder metallurgy technology in the late 1940s, to a certain extent, reduced the difficulty of titanium products processing. By the mid-1960s, TC4 powder metallurgy process had made great progress, and achieved remarkable results in reducing material consumption and parts manufacturing costs. Titanium is a light metal with high melting point and high activity, which cannot be obtained by ore smelting. Titanium sponge is made from natural or artificial rutile by metal thermal reduction or molten salt electrolysis, and then melted into ingot by vacuum arc.
How is TC4 powder metallurgy developed? In 1946, dense metal titanium directly made of sponge titanium appeared. First, it is crushed into powder, then cold pressed and sintered. This is actually the TC4 powder metallurgy method. At that time, the performance of TC4 powder was not high, mainly affected by pores and non-metallic inclusions, but the filter made of TC4 powder was very durable. Therefore, titanium filter material has been used as the first generation of TC4 powder alloy products. Since then, since the vacuum consumable electrode arc melting process appeared, the conventional TC4 powder metallurgy process is no longer needed. In the mid-1960s, TC4 powder was prepared by rotating electrode atomization method, and the properties of TC4 powder were significantly improved by hip densification process. The successful application and promotion of TC4 powder, which is close to the net shape technology, has greatly reduced the manufacturing cost of titanium parts, which makes the application of TC4 powder expand day by day, and has attracted more and more attention in aerospace and other new industrial fields.
This is the basic development of TC4 powder.
