Titanium alloy powder is a material made of qualified molten titanium alloy liquid metal by atomization, rotating electrode or vacuum vacuum reduction atomization, hot extrusion into rod, hot isostatic pressure into titanium alloy turbine disk, aircraft keel joint, seawater desalination device, etc.
Titanium and its alloys have high specific strength, good moderate temperature and heat strength, corrosion resistance and abundant resources. Therefore, they are widely used in aviation, chemical industry, metallurgy, medical treatment, marine engineering and other fields. Titanium and titanium alloy powder have become the main metal structure material of aircraft engine.
Titanium is difficult to melt and process, and the manufacturing cost of parts is high. The rise of titanium alloy powder metallurgy technology in the late 1940s has reduced the difficulty of titanium processing to some extent. It was not until the mid-1960s that the titanium powder metallurgy process made great progress, and achieved remarkable results in reducing material consumption and parts manufacturing cost.
Titanium is a light metal with high melting point and high activity, and can not be obtained by ore smelting. Titanium is a sponge titanium made from natural or artificial rutile (TiO2), which is made by metal reduction or molten salt electrolysis, and then melted into ingot by vacuum arc. In 1946, the compact titanium toughened titanium was produced directly from titanium alloy powder. It is crushed into powder, then cold pressed and sintered. This is actually the powder metallurgy method of titanium. At that time, the properties of titanium alloy powder were not high, mainly due to the influence of pores and nonmetallic inclusions, but the filter made of it was very durable. Therefore, titanium filter materials began to be used as titanium alloy powder products.
After the arc melting process of vacuum consumable electrode appears, it is no longer necessary to use the conventional titanium alloy powder metallurgy process. In the mid 1960s, titanium alloy powder was prepared by rotating electrode atomization, and the properties of titanium alloy powder were improved by hip densification. The successful application and promotion of powder titanium near the net shape technology (NNSP) reduces the manufacturing cost of titanium parts, which makes the application of titanium alloy powder more and more widely, which has attracted more and more attention in the new industry fields such as aerospace.
